About the Greek Orthodox Parish of Saints Constantine and Helen
Our parish was formed in 1993 as a daughter-parish to the Greek Orthodox Community in Leeds. Although we are part of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain, we are an ethnically diverse community; we have Greek, Russian, Ukranian, English, Swedish and Egyptian people among our regular congregation. Because of the ethnic diversity of our parish, our Liturgies are said mostly in English, but we use some Greek and Slavonic as well. We like to say the Lord's Prayer in as many languages as we have people to cover them, as it is the most important prayer in the Christian church.
Everyone is very welcome at our Church, whether they want to become regular members of our community or they are just visiting. Some of our congregation are students at one of the Universities in York, some are on temporary work contracts here, others live and work in York; it is lovely to see you all. If you are new or just visiting, please feel free to stay for tea/coffee and biscuits, and anything else we might have thought to bring, after the service.
